The University of Trans-Disciplinary Health Sciences and Technology (TDU) is a private research university located in Bengaluru, Karnataka, dedicated to trans-disciplinary education, research and innovation at the intersection of traditional knowledge, health sciences, natural sciences, social sciences and technology. Established in 2013 through legislation by the Government of Karnataka, TDU was created to develop a new model of higher education in which complex societal and health challenges can be addressed by bringing together knowledge and methods from multiple disciplines. The university is part of a larger ecosystem associated with the Foundation for Revitalisation of Local Health Traditions (FRLHT) and works closely with the Institute of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine (IAIM), including its 100-bed research hospital. TDU has developed a distinctive academic and research identity around integrative health sciences, with Ayurveda Biology serving as one of its core areas of research. Its research activities bring together Ayurveda, modern biology, clinical sciences, medicinal plant studies, genomics, data science, traditional knowledge systems, informatics and other related disciplines. The university's broader vision extends beyond healthcare to areas such as environmental studies, conservation, sustainability, social sciences, design, policy and technology. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate and research-oriented learning opportunities designed to combine theoretical knowledge with practical and experiential learning. Its postgraduate and research programmes provide opportunities for students interested in areas such as Life Sciences, Ayurveda Biology, integrative health sciences and related interdisciplinary fields. TDU also provides learning-for-life opportunities through workshops, seminars, experiential programmes and other initiatives that encourage students and researchers to engage with real-world challenges. Research is central to TDU's academic model. The university promotes collaboration among scientists, healthcare professionals, researchers, communities, policymakers and other stakeholders to develop solutions with practical social impact. Its research ecosystem includes work in Ayurveda Biology, clinical research, medicinal plants, conservation of natural resources, functional genomics and bioinformatics, traditional knowledge, data sciences and informatics, community health, ethno-veterinary science and other trans-disciplinary areas. TDU operates from its campus at Jarakabande Kaval, near Yelahanka in Bengaluru. The university provides research laboratories, academic facilities, learning spaces and access to specialised research infrastructure. Through its association with IAIM and its wider FRLHT ecosystem, students and researchers can engage with healthcare research, traditional knowledge documentation, medicinal plant resources, conservation initiatives and community-oriented projects. The university's educational philosophy focuses on intellectual curiosity rather than examination-based learning alone. TDU seeks to create opportunities for students and researchers to pursue knowledge based on their interests while encouraging innovation, collaboration and societal impact. Its vision of social transformation through innovation is inspired by Ayurveda, natural and social sciences and technology. With its distinctive trans-disciplinary research model, focus on integrative health sciences, strong connection with traditional knowledge systems and emphasis on socially relevant innovation, The University of Trans-Disciplinary Health Sciences and Technology offers a unique higher education and research environment in Bengaluru. It is particularly suited to students and researchers interested in the intersection of health, science, technology, Ayurveda, biodiversity, data and sustainable development.
