University of Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) is a State Public University located in Bengaluru, Karnataka, with a distinguished legacy of more than a century in engineering education. Originally established in 1917 as Government Engineering College under the vision of Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya, UVCE is one of India's oldest engineering institutions and the first engineering college established in Karnataka. The institution was subsequently named after Sir M. Visvesvaraya in recognition of his contribution to engineering, education and the development of modern Mysore State. In 2022, the Government of Karnataka transformed UVCE into a university under the University of Visvesvaraya College of Engineering Act, 2021. The Act established UVCE, Bengaluru as a non-affiliating university with the objective of developing it as an Institution of State Eminence and providing greater academic, administrative and financial autonomy. The university follows an IIT-inspired model intended to strengthen engineering education, research, innovation and industry collaboration while preserving the institution's historic academic identity.
