Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University

About

Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University (VSKU) is a State Public University located in Ballari, Karnataka, established by the Government of Karnataka in 2010 under the Karnataka State Universities Act. Named after the celebrated Vijayanagara emperor Sri Krishnadevaraya, the university was created to strengthen access to higher education and research opportunities in the Ballari and Koppal regions. Since its establishment, VSKU has developed into an important regional centre for undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral education, with a strong focus on providing affordable and accessible higher education to students from diverse social and economic backgrounds. The university follows an affiliating university model and currently has a large network of affiliated colleges offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Its academic structure covers a broad range of disciplines across Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Commerce, Management, Science, Computer Applications and other emerging areas. In addition to affiliated colleges, the university operates postgraduate campuses and departments that provide specialised higher education and research opportunities. VSKU's main campus is located at Vinayaka Nagar in Ballari and is spread across approximately 95 acres. The campus houses the university's major administrative offices and postgraduate departments, along with classrooms, laboratories, libraries, research facilities, student-support services and other academic infrastructure. The university also has postgraduate facilities at other locations, including Nandihalli in Sandur Taluk, providing greater regional access to higher education. Research and postgraduate education are important components of the university's academic mission. VSKU supports research scholars through doctoral programmes and postgraduate departments across disciplines. Faculty members and students participate in research projects, academic publications, seminars, conferences and collaborative activities. The university encourages research that addresses regional social, economic, environmental and scientific challenges and contributes to the development of the surrounding communities. The university also places emphasis on student development beyond classroom education. Students have access to activities and services through the National Service Scheme, student welfare initiatives, sports, cultural programmes, career development and placement support. These activities aim to improve students' academic capabilities, communication skills, leadership qualities, employability and social responsibility. VSKU serves the educational needs of Ballari and Koppal districts, a region with significant historical, cultural, industrial and mineral resources. The university's regional mandate enables it to develop academic programmes and research activities relevant to local communities while also providing students with opportunities to participate in broader academic and professional networks. The university has also participated in the National Institutional Ranking Framework and submits institutional data for national assessment. Its NIRF submissions include Overall and Management categories. However, participation or submission of NIRF data should not be confused with a published ranking position; therefore, the university's current numeric NIRF rank should only be entered when a specific published NIRF rank is verified. With its multidisciplinary academic programmes, extensive affiliated-college network, postgraduate campuses and regional focus, Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University plays an important role in Karnataka's public higher education system. The university continues to focus on accessible education, research, innovation, student development and the social and economic advancement of the Ballari and Koppal regions.
